Day 1: Of our Yoga tour in Morocco – Casablanca – Marrakech
Our Yoga tour in Morocco. Upon arrival in Casablanca we take a short tour of the city, the financial and business center of the Kingdom of Morocco, and be sure to visit the famous mosque of Hassan the Second, the most grandiose Muslim temple built in the twentieth century, the second largest in the world after the Al-Haram Mosque in Mecca.
After visiting the mosque we start our journey inland towards Marrakech. In Marrakech we rest in the hotel after the transfer and, if there is time, take a tour of the city.
Locals call Marrakech the “red jewel of Morocco. For more than two centuries, this city has been the center of a great empire: the zoko, medina, palaces, gardens and mosques represent one of the most amazing cities a traveler can see.
We will visit the Saadite Tomb, El Badi Palace, the world famous Koutoubia Mosque and spend the evening in the magical Djemma El Fna Square, enjoying the spectacle of life in this square, life which looks like a show for tourists, but in fact has been an integral part of the life of Marrakech people for many centuries. In the evening our first Moroccan dinner awaits us in a very pleasant restaurant with local cuisine.
Day 2: Marrakech – Atlas Mountains (Imlil Berber village).
After breakfast we leave Marrakech for the Atlas Mountains, 70 kilometers from the city. Our first stop will be in the village of Asnou where we will visit the local market.
We can already see the relief of the High Atlas on the horizon! Our route takes us on a winding road through beautiful foothills with the first Berber mountain settlements.
We may stop for lunch at one of the settlements along the road for a typical Moroccan barbecue. After the village of Asni the road goes into the heart of the Atlas Mountains and ends at the mountain village of Imlil at an altitude of 1740 meters.
We stop in the village of Imlil, which is the starting point for climbs and expeditions to the highest peaks of North Africa and is located on the border of Toubkal National Park.
Here we can drink sweet mint tea in the shade of walnut trees and spend the rest of the day wandering around the village with its gardens and sheep pastures, choosing a souvenir in the artesania stores.
The economic resources of the local population remain the same as centuries ago – agriculture and animal husbandry – although in recent years, the mountain tourism industry has begun to make a significant contribution to the economy of mountain villages in the area.
Imlil means “whiteness” in the local dialect; during the winter months, the village is covered by snow. After a walk through the village, we have lunch at a local cafeteria and go on an easy hike through the villages of the High Atlas. It is in these villages that the Berber traditions, language and culture, unaffected by Arab influence, have been preserved.
We climb to about 2100 meters to the village of Aremd, where we have a nice dinner on the terrace of a Berber family’s house overlooking the mountains and a sky full of stars.
We spend the night in this house, made as a mountain hotel for tourists “gite d’etape”.
Day 3: Berber villages of the High Atlas – Imlil River Valley
After class with a magnificent view of the Imlil River Valley from the terrace of our hotel house and breakfast with mint tea, we go out for a walk through the valley.
The first part of the walk will take us through an orchard of walnut trees. Centuries-old walnut trees are typical of the High Atlas Mountains, their nuts used by Berbers for food and making sweets, and their trunks used in building houses.
We then walk out to a mosque amidst blooming apple orchards, waterfalls and green meadows at Tizi Tamatert Pass, overlooking all the villages of the valley.
We will be able to interact with local people and see village life firsthand. Lunch in the countryside among the apple orchards, where our chefs will prepare a wonderful vegetarian lunch and, of course, mint tea over an open fire.
Travel time is about 5 hours. In the evening we return to the gite d’etape and spend our last night in the mountains there.
Day 4: Aremd – Ait Benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley (journey to the fabulous kasbah)
In the morning after breakfast, we descend on foot to the village of Imlil, where off-road vehicles await us for the journey across the mountains to the south of Morocco toward the Sahara.

We relax and enjoy the atmosphere of the most famous and photogenic complex of the Xours and the kasbahs where more than 20 films have been shot, among them “Lawrence of Arabia” and “Gladiator”.
We continue our journey to Ouarzazate, an unusual Moroccan town located in an oasis in the middle of the Hammada, a rock desert, 1,160 meters above sea level, on the banks of the Draa and Dades rivers.
We have lunch and rest in the town and continue through the Dades Valley, called the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs.

Finally, we will approach the desert in the village of Merzouga, where we will board camels and make the final journey into the heart of the Sahara, to the dunes of Erg Chebbi.
While our guides set up a Berber haima tent and prepare dinner, we’ll climb the dunes and wait for sunset, Dinner under the desert stars and moonlight, and when it’s over we’ll enjoy Berber music and an overnight stay in the haima.
